The functions of the Directorate of Electricity , Govt. of West Bengal depends upon the Administration of Indian Electricity Act,1910 and Indian Electricity Rules,1956 framed thereunder, West Bengal lift and Escalator Act,1955 and rules framed there under, Bengal Electricity Duty Act,1935 and West Bengal Duty on intestate River valley, Authority Electricity Act and rules framed there under. DOE is being entrusted with the duties of issuance of Electrical Workman Permit, Electrical Supervisor Certificate of Competency, License to Electrical Contractor, National Certificate of Supervisor, Lift Attendant Authorization, Certificate of Registration for Erection & Maintenance of Lift, License to work a Lift, Certificate of Registration for Erection & Maintenance of Escalator, License to Work an Escalator. The responsibility of holding written, oral & practical test also on DOE for issuing these license, certificate, permit authorization . Doe also issue Lift and Escalator Licenses to the respective owner. DOE also entrusted with the duty of inspection of high voltage consumer’s installation work to ensure safety in public place to attend complaints from consumer, supplier to take necessary action attend to settle dispute between consumer and license, to enquire the electrical accident, collection of govt. revenue in the form of fees, fines etc. The various functional sections of the DOE,WB are as follows:-
